Recommendations for Extension
-
Hi River,
Firstly, just want to say this is by far the best extension I've seen when it comes to finding definitions and enabling easy translations, so thank you for all that you do!
If I could provide a couple recs (and keep in mind I'm a neophyte when it comes to this stuff), it would be great if users were able to:
- Select a default dictionary that is utilized when defining words outside of the double-click functionality, and
- Improving recognition of loanwords, especially within English dictionaries and for words that have accents present. Paradigmatic example is détente.
Again, want to reiterate that this is by far the best Language/Dictionary extension I've ever used, so thank you for your enterprise in creating something so beneficial for us.

Thank you for you feedback, I am super glad you like it.Select a default dictionary that is utilized when defining words outside of the double-click functionality
Yep, that's exactly in my roadmap, and it would be added in the near future. Stay tuned.

That's interesting. I haven't thought about this before. I would hope AI could achieve this. I will definitely put this in consideration when implementing the AI definition.

Hi, happy new year. With the release of V7.0.0 I can finally say that this issue has been solved in a certain degree.when defining words outside of the double-click functionality
Now with AI lookup, the gap can finally be filled, largely, as now AI can provide much better explanation of any word in the given context, be it a meme, an Internet slang, or even gibberish.

For this specific example word
détente, both dictionary and AI can look it up, you just need to check the tickbox ofLook up French wordsin the settings. But I can see that AI has a better contextual explanation of it as it knows the context, and can explain it's usage and origin in English.Select a default dictionary...
In the future releases, I will think about how to do it.

@river Happy New Year! Tried out the AI lookup and it's great-- really language is the perfect use case for LLMs at this point.
Want to mention because I think it's important, but when you select "Look up _____ words", it seems the definition will be in the language of the selected language.
